Best of Intention

The intention to become a high performance company, or the intention to become a high performance team will not attract high performers. It may attract curiosity. It may attract attention to your attempts, but you will not receive commendations for trying.

The only measure of performance is performance.

You will only attract high performers when you are in a state of high performance. And, that starts with you. Yoda says, “Do or do not, there is no TRY.”

This quote from Yoda puzzles me.

Do we not have to try things to see if they are a fit for our selves? Do you pull clothes off a rack a put up with too tight armpits, over tight waist bands, or snaps that don’t stay snapped?

You try and go from there?

Exploration is always part of the process of discovery, even discovery of high performance. The post distinguishes between intention and doing. Some people talk a good game, and use that talk to enlist cooperation, but intention and talk are just that. Even enlisted cooperation or support disappears quickly without the desired output. I am certain the Carolina Panthers (2-15) had great intentions last season, but their ability to attract the best players is going to be difficult.
